How to Use Your Stain Pen
- Clean the area. Make sure the damaged area is clean, dry, and free of dust or residue.
- Test first. Whenever possible, test the stain in an inconspicuous area before applying it to the visible repair.
- Apply sparingly. Follow the direction of the wood grain and apply only enough stain to color the exposed wood.
- Blend as needed. Wipe away excess stain promptly with a clean, soft cloth. Additional light applications can be used if more color is needed.
- Allow to dry. Let the repaired area dry completely before normal use.
What a Stain Pen Can — and Can't — Repair
Stain pens work best when a scratch or nick has removed the color and exposed lighter, unfinished wood underneath.
A stain pen adds color back to the damaged area, but it does not fill dents or gouges and does not replace a damaged protective topcoat. More significant damage may require additional furniture repair or refinishing.
Choosing the Right Color
If your furniture was purchased from QW, we recommend selecting the same stain color listed on your original order whenever possible.
Keep in mind that solid wood naturally varies in grain and color. The age of the furniture, wood species, exposure to light, and the existing finish can also affect how a touch-up appears. Because of these natural variations, an exact invisible match cannot be guaranteed.
